Meaning behind Married At First Sight season eight trailer

The first full Married At First Sight season eight trailer has dropped – and there’s an interesting concept behind it.

Channel Nine has dropped the first full trailer for 2021’s season of Married At First Sight.

Set to Sam Smith’s ‘To Die For’, the brides and grooms are seen running around Sydney’s CBD train stations. While it has caused confusion, there is a simple explanation behind it all.

The trailer is actually based on 1998 comedy drama ‘Sliding Doors’, which stars Gwyneth Paltrow and John Hannah. The film follows a woman whose love life and career both depend on whether or not she catches a train.

“The promo is built around the Sliding Doors concept and the idea that sometimes our lives can be sent down entirely different paths just through the tiniest quirks of fate in our daily lives like missing a train,” said MAFS executive producer John Walsh.

Walsh explained to 9Now that the trailer was filmed alongside real commuters and the cast members had to push the doors open at exactly the right time. If they failed, they would have to wait for the next one to arrive.

In the trailer, you also get a good glimpse of the season’s brides including Booka Nile, Samantha Harvey and Connie ‘Coco’ Stedman. Want to know a little bit more about them? We stalked the entire cast here.
