#1 Find a good psychologist
You won’t always click with everyone you meet, but please don’t let that deter you from speaking to a professional.
You know straight away, after the first session if it’s the right psychologist for you. But if it’s not, don’t give up! It’s well worth finding the right fit. It’ll completely transform your life, in the most positive and beautiful way.
#2 Listen to your body
It will always tell you what you need. If you’re feeling tired or exhausted, rest. Give yourself permission to sleep in, stay in comfy clothes all day, eat yummy food. Resting is a form of self-care, so stop feeling guilty for having those “lazy” weekends.
#3 Always have a good book
Even if you’re a slow reader, and can only read one page before you get tired and fall asleep.
That’s ok! It’s good for the soul to get lost in between the pages of a good book before you go to bed
#4 Get some fresh air
Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed I’ll switch my phone off, and go for a walk outside. Sometimes I’ll just go to the park and sit or lay for a while. Get out of your head & into nature.
Keep a journal next to your bed. It’s a fantastic habit to get into everyday. Sometimes life gets busy, and every day might not be realistic. But if you keep it next to your bed, whenever you have a racing mind, you’re feeling anxious, or you can’t sleep because a million things are playing on your mind.. write it down.
It’s a really simple way of clearing your mind. Also, it’s great to look back on to track your thoughts and feelings to see patterns or as a nice reminder that anxious thoughts pass and brighter days are coming. I love to light my Believe by Sam Frost candle x Myles Gray and journal, I find this a beautiful ritual of mine.
#6 Sit in the stillness
Every morning I wake up, make my coffee & sit in silence for 20-30 mins while I drink it. I keep my phone away from me, and just stay in the stillness. I find it a really effective way to clear my mind, and reset before I begin my day.
#7 Stay active
For me personally, when I’m feeling the healthiest mentally, it’s when I have been exercising regularly. It doesn’t always mean gruelling workouts at the gym, it can be a simple walk with my dogs around the neighbourhood. Fresh air & moving my body does wonders for my mental health.
