Your love horoscope for the week is here, commencing January 2nd 2021
Astrologer Oscar Cainer lays out your weekly love horoscope for the week of Saturday January 2nd to Friday, January 8th.
Hooray! 2020 is in the rear-view mirror. It’s time to look ahead with hope and January’s packed full of it! As Uranus changes direction, converges with powerful Mars, and links with optimistic Jupiter and realistic Saturn, it signals breakthroughs and fresh beginnings.
Release, and progress achieved by determined action, are the themes of the month. As the Full Moon arrives, just as the Sun aligns with the Great Conjunction, here comes a chance to take the courageous steps forward we’ve yearned for.

‘To err is human; to forgive, divine’. The words of 18th-century poet Alexander Pope acknowledge a truth that many of us find hard to put into practice. Some sins feel just too big to forgive. But, without forgiveness, there can be no progress. It might seem very early to be facing your first big test of the New Year; but you know what you’re really looking at here.
All the power is with you, and the more you nurse a grudge, the more it grows. You can be the bigger person. An ounce of forgiveness now can yield a ton of joy later. And there’s a good chance of a romantic dividend too!
We’ve all got at least one friend who always questions what’s going on. It’s as if they must challenge things; look for loopholes, as if to get one over on authority. No one likes being told what to do; but their defiance and belief that ‘rules are made to be broken’ can create more problems than it solves.
As Mars moves into your sign, be strong and resist any suggestion to make a challenging gesture. It will, eventually, prove to be futile. It’s time to let someone know you’re not a pushover. There are more positive issues to focus on… and you’ll need every scrap of energy to benefit.
Experienced pianists who practise for years develop ‘muscle memory’ to the point where they can perform difficult passages of music almost without thinking. The same applies to certain sportspeople and performers. You might think that you have little or nothing in common with such folk.
But, although your experience is different, you’ve mentally practised the moves you need to make and the things you need to say in a relationship situation such as the one you face now. Once you start, the words and moves will come easily.
‘Nothing lasts forever. But I will always love you…’ This poignant lyric from a little-known song by Harry Nilsson seems to sum up the contradictory feelings you’re experiencing. How can there be an ‘always’ if nothing lasts forever? It’s an acceptance of reality, at the same time as a poetic declaration of what you can do within your own power.
As Venus moves into your opposite sign, it’s time to make a stand. Some things may be beyond your control; but if you reveal what’s in your heart, your words will be well-received.
When you go on holiday it doesn’t take long before you start feeling like a different person. The same effect can happen with a new outfit or a haircut. We say it out loud sometimes: ‘you look completely different… ‘
Our environment shapes us and affects our mood, even when we’re not fully aware that it’s happening. As Mercury changes signs this week, clear communication is paramount. You have something important to say and can avoid falling into familiar patterns. A ‘new’ you needs to be saying those words.
We like to think we live in a democracy; where debates are held and people make up their minds after hearing reasoned arguments. But the truth is that debate rarely changes any but the most open minds. Are you wasting time trying to get a leopard to change their spots?
Reason appears to be having no effect. Your fair-mindedness seems wasted – and the lack of progress is harming your self-esteem. You can lovingly state your position; but you need to make it clear that the time for talking is over. It’s time for action!
It’s unlike you to be pessimistic; of all the zodiac signs, you usually manage to see the upside of any situation. I’m going to blame the current world situation for the recent negative thoughts you’ve been having.
Fortunately, with Mars, Mercury and Venus all changing signs in quick succession later this week, a remedy is at hand. It should be enough to bring the optimism, on which so many of your friends and loved ones rely, back to the fore. The change will deliver a welcome romantic boost for you too.
For too long you’ve spent time fixing other folks’ woes. You had a few of your own too; but they always seemed less important to you than the need to help others. Such is the value you place on friendship and loyalty. But, in neglecting your own needs, a series of relationship issues now risk becoming a problem.
Yet the remedy is close at hand. You just have to acknowledge that you need to put yourself first for a while. And as Mercury, Mars and Venus change signs this week, the timing couldn’t be better.
If you’ve ever been in the kitchen when a top chef is at work, although it can get chaotic, it wouldn’t be fair to judge them at the messy stage. It’s only the final dish that really matters. You’re mid-way through a difficult emotional project – and things are starting to look a bit disorderly in your life too. But, as long as you know where you’re going, and that you’ll have time to tidy up afterwards, no one has the right to criticise you. Life can be messy. But if you listen to your heart, you’ll get the right result.
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but am I right in thinking that you’ve been running on some kind of autopilot for a while? Has everything been ‘just fine’ or ‘not too bad’ for months? Considering the year we’ve just had, that probably represents some kind of success! But now, as passionate Venus moves into your sign, the time has come to dig deep and rediscover your ambition, your passion, and your goals. You might not have a road map yet, but the planet of love is here to show you the route.
Tattoos and piercings are significantly more widespread than they were just a generation ago. Psychologists have attributed it in part to Generation Xers and Millennials not having the same freedoms enjoyed by their Boomer parents; this is their way of marking out territory and showing that they have control of their lives. As Mercury enters your sign, you won’t need to get a new tattoo to communicate your depth of feeling. You have the words you need; this week, you should find an easy time to speak them.
We’ve all seen those comedy sketches where one person’s frantically waving their arms about trying to attract someone’s attention, while the person they’re trying to get hold of is engrossed in another activity, and completely oblivious. Have you been so bound up in a task that you’ve been blind to someone who’s trying to catch your eye? How could you know without taking time to lift your head up and look around a bit more? Someone’s trying to tune in to your wavelength. You’ll be more receptive this week.
